To get a ‘Great Achievement” award, Rob needs to swim 94 lengths of the swimming pool. If he has already swum 69 lengths
, how many more lengths of the swimming pool does he need to swim to get his award?

Strategy One is called reversibility                                                 Answer: 25

69 + _ = 94

69 + 1 = 70
70 + 20 = 90

90 + 4 = 94

Strategy Two is called place value                               Answer: 25

94 - 60 = 34

34 - 9 = 25

The KNOWLEDGE I needed to solve this problem included knowing how to plus and takeaway so you can get the answer
right and you also need to know what the easiest strategy for the problem.

16 x 9 =

16 x 10 = 160
160 - 16 = 144

Strategy Two is called doubling and halving                  Answer: $144

16 x 9 =

8 x 18 =
4 x 36 =
2 x 72 = 144

The KNOWLEDGE I needed to solve this problem included knowing how to do your times tables and knowing how to
takeaway.

8 bags full of rubbish

24 bogs in total
8/24 simplify = 1/3
8, 16, 24.

Strategy Two is called multiplication                                    Answer: 1/3

8 x _ = 24

8 x 3 = 24
8 goes into 24 3 times
8, 16, 24
1/3

The KNOWLEDGE I needed to solve this problem included knowing how to do your times tables and knowing how to
convert numbers in to fractions and knowing how to skip count in eights.
